Play Submissions
Jubilee Theatre creates professional productions that are artistically excellent and which reflect the African-American experience. Jubilee Theatre is committed to producing new works which help further the mission of the theatre. As a result, we do accept play submissions from established and budding playwrights.
Season planning begins in January of each year and is usually concluded around mid-April. The best time to submit scripts is the beginning of each year.
We ask all playwrights to submit the following in order for Jubilee to consider a script:
- Letter of intent (no more than 500 words) addressing how the work reflects the African-American experience.
- Resume, including contact information.
- 10-page sample of the play. This sample need not be from the beginning of the play or all one scene. Please do not submit full scripts at this time, as they will not be read in entirety.
- Stamped, self-addressed post card if you want to receive acknowledgment of receipt.
Your application should include ONLY the above materials and be mailed to:
Ed Smith, Artistic Director
Jubilee Theatre Play Submissions
506 Main Street

Applicants may be contacted and asked to supply completed scripts, other plays they have written, references, and/or other materials.
Please note: Due to the large number of scripts that Jubilee receives, we are not able to respond to or provide feedback for all playwrights. No phone calls please.
