It’s Christmas Eve and Eb Scroo is seeking to snuff out the season’s cheer by demanding all debts owed him be satisfied before nightfall. Facing imprisonment, a Christmas without presents and a feast, the residents are desperate. In this urban spin of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, the ghosts and characters are icons of Black culture performing holiday songs with a twist!

Playwright Ekundayo Bandele (pictured) is current the Exec. Director of the Hatiloo Theater in Memphis, TN., which he also founded. He was born in Buffalo, NY and started writing books in the sixth grade. By the age of 27, Mr. Bandele had already written three stage plays, with more to come!

If Scrooge Was a Brother premiered at the Hatiloo Theater in 2013, and has since become a local holiday favorite. Jubilee Theatre will present its own production starting on November 22nd, 2019. This will be the first holiday production under the leadership of Artistic Director D. Wambui Richardson (pictured below). If Scrooge Was a Brother will show Thursday nights through Saturday nights, with a Sunday matinee. The production will close at Jubilee Theatre on Sunday, December 22nd, 2019.
