Grades 6–12 | Serving Fort Worth ISD Students
The Junior Masterclass Program is a dynamic, multi-tiered educational initiative designed to support and inspire students in grades 6–12 across the Fort Worth ISD system. Through hands-on artistic experiences, direct engagement with professional theatre practitioners, and opportunities for critical and creative exploration, the program cultivates confidence, communication skills, and a deeper understanding of the arts. The Junior Masterclass Program currently operates in three primary tracks:
1. On-Site Master Classes: In collaboration with campus drama instructors
Our On-Site Master Classes are custom-designed sessions that directly reinforce curriculum being taught in the classroom. Working in partnership with theatre educators, we tailor each workshop to meet students’ current learning objectives and artistic skill levels. Master classes may include:
-
Monologue Coaching & Technique
Students receive individualized coaching to refine vocal delivery, emotional connection, and character intention, helping them grow as confident performers.
-
Text & Script Analysis
Teaching students how to interrogate text cultivates critical thinking, close reading skills, and the ability to understand motivation, context, and structure.
-
Movement & Physical Storytelling
Through ensemble exercises and physical theatre techniques, students explore body awareness, spatial relationship, and nonverbal communication.
-
Blocking & Stagecraft Fundamentals
Students learn how staging choices support dramatic intention, collaboration, and the overall storytelling process.
-
Ensemble Building
Collaborative activities promote trust, communication, empathy, and a strong sense of community within the classroom.
Student Benefits:
These immersive workshops empower students to discover their artistic voice while strengthening vital academic and social-emotional skills. Students build confidence through performance, enhance literacy through script work, and develop teamwork, discipline, and problem-solving abilities that translate well beyond the stage. The direct collaboration between professional artists and classroom teachers ensures that students experience theatre as a living, evolving art form connected to their own experiences.
Young Critics Program
Junior Masterclass Program
A unique opportunity for students to engage as emerging arts journalists and analysts
The Young Critics Program invites students to explore theatre from a critical and analytical perspective. When a production is age-appropriate, participating classes receive:
-
Scripts for Classroom Analysis
Students study the script in advance, examining structure, themes, style, and character development.
-
Invitations to a Technical Rehearsal
Students witness the inner workings of professional theatre—lighting, sound, staging, and problem-solving in real time—offering insights into the collaborative creative process.
-
Attendance at a Full Production
Students see the complete artistic vision realized and compare it with their earlier analysis.
-
Access to Cast & Creative Teams
Through guided Q&A sessions, students ask questions about artistic decisions, rehearsal techniques, design elements, and the overall production process.
-
Formal Critique Writing
After attending the production, students craft comprehensive critiques that address acting, directing, design, storytelling, and audience impact.
Student Benefits:
The Young Critics Program strengthens analytical thinking, written communication, and media literacy. Students learn to support opinions with evidence, evaluate artistic choices, and articulate their perspectives with clarity and confidence. By seeing how professional theatre is built from the ground up, students gain a deeper appreciation for the complexity of the arts—and discover potential career pathways both on and off the stage. This program encourages students to become thoughtful observers, empathetic thinkers, and articulate community voices.

Summer Programming (In Development)
The Summer Programming track is currently being developed to provide more intensive, multi-week
training opportunities for middle and high school students. Planned offerings include performance
intensives, technical theatre labs, playwriting and devising workshops, and mentorship opportunities
with professional artists. This summer expansion will allow students to immerse themselves in a
rigorous and supportive artistic environment while building skills that prepare them for advanced
theatre work, college auditions, and creative leadership roles.
Practicum to Practice Program
Undergraduate & Graduate Students
Jubilee Theatre’s Practicum to Practice Program provides emerging theatre artists with meaningful, hands-on experience that bridges the gap between academic training and professional practice. Through partnerships with Texas Wesleyan University, Texas Christian University, Southern Methodist University, and Tarrant County College, Jubilee Theatre welcomes undergraduate and graduate students into every facet of the theatrical process.
Each season, students from these institutions have the opportunity to:
-
Perform on the Jubilee Stage
Students gain firsthand experience working in a professional rehearsal environment, collaborating with seasoned directors, actors, and creative teams.
-
Work in Technical & Design Departments
Opportunities include carpentry, lighting, scenic design, costume design, sound, and stage
management. Students contribute directly to mainstage productions, not simulations.
-
Train Alongside Professional Artists
Mentorship is embedded into the program. Students receive industry insights, technical
instruction, and personalized feedback from working professionals.
-
Build Competitive Résumés & Portfolios
Many participants develop full set, lighting, or costume designs that are implemented in
public performances—earning professional credits that strengthen their artistic portfolios.
Program Benefits
The Practicum to Practice Program is intentionally designed to provide students with a strong
foundation for a sustainable career in the arts. Key benefits include:
-
Real-World Application of Academic Training
Students move beyond classroom theory and apply their skills to actual productions with real deadlines, budgets, and collaborative pressures. This accelerates learning and deepens discipline-specific expertise.
-
Professional Credits Before Graduation
Having mainstage design, performance, or technical credits prior to entering the job market gives students a significant advantage when applying for internships, graduate programs, apprenticeships, and professional positions.
-
Career Exploration & Exposure
By working in multiple departments, students gain a broader understanding of the theatre ecosystem. This exposure often helps students clarify their career paths, discover new passions, or develop versatile skill sets.
-
Networking & Mentorship
Students form meaningful, ongoing relationships with professional artists and industry leaders. These connections often lead to recommendations, employment opportunities, and long-term career support.
-
Confidence, Professionalism & Readiness
The program reinforces punctuality, communication, problem-solving, and collaboration—core competencies that prepare students for the expectations of the professional theatre world.
-
Increased Post-Graduation Success
In a competitive industry, experience matters. By working at Jubilee Theatre, students enter the workforce with a deeper understanding of professional standards and the artistic rigor required to succeed.
